A highlight of the day was the selection of the Trakehner annual winner mare. The eleven best three-year-old mares of the year were invited – and these future breeding hopes thrilled the trio of judges and the audience. It was a matter of choosing the most beautiful of the day: The race was made by the lacquer-black beauty “Salvana’s Helena” by Helium, bred by the breeding community Rüdel, Felde, and owned by Helmar Bescht, Schlieckau. “When you see such a great mare here, with these movements, the ease and this interior, as a breeder and as an owner you can just be proud. An outstanding annual champion mare – we can’t find any words for such a horse, ”enthused the judges. The breeder and owner duo provided the annual winner mare with Helena’s full sister “Helene” last year. The Millennium daughter Donauspiel, bred by Hans-Joachim Gross, Schwaförden and owned by the young Grafing stud near Munich, shone as reserve champion. The final ring with five mares caused the external judge Dr. Axel Brockmann, Landstallmeister at the State Stud Celle, and Gerd Sosath, Oldenburg stallion owner and show jumper, comment on: “We have good dressage mares in Hanover and Oldenburg, but when we see these modern mares with their outstanding walk, we can only say: Congratulations! “
