The Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Ramiz Hasanov, celebrated last Wednesday the State Flag Day in Azerbaijan, which is commemorated every November 9th. The event was enlivened by an excellent and heartfelt concert by Mugam music.

“This Azerbaijani Mugam Night, observed the Azerbaijani Ambassador, is an event that reflects the ancient customs and traditions of my country. Mugam is characterized by a high expressive form, with shades of national literature and mysticism. It is a musical genre that preserves the purity of the Azerbaijani language ”.

Ramiz Hasanov stressed the importance of this musical genre noting that “on November 7, 2003, Azerbaijan Mugam was inscribed in the UNESCO list of oral and intangible heritage masterpieces of humanity and in 2008 it was inscribed in the representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of the same international organization Azerbaijan Mugam was born in the city of Shusha, Known as the “Conservatory of the East”. This city was founded in 1752 and plays a vital role in the social and cultural life of Azerbaijan. In fact, with various decrees of the President of the Republic, Shusha was declared the Cultural capital of Azerbaijan. Large construction and restoration projects are currently underway in the city.

Led by the Azerbaijani folk artist Mansum Ibrahimov the Mugham Garabagh band, made up of folk artists Elchin Hashimov (tarista), emeritus artists Elnur Ahmadov (3-4 stringed kamancha stringed musical instrument) e Kamran Kerimov (naghara-common name of Azerbaijani double-sided drums), performed with an interesting show, singing mugham and Azerbaijani folk songs.
