The Automated Prodem Factory of Lindstrom: A Model of Technology and Efficiency in Workwear Production

The “Lindstrom Prodem” workwear factory in Tukuma, which works mainly for export, is an example of how technology can make work easier for people. About 60% of all processes in the production plant are already automated. Even in the carpet maintenance provided by the company in Pinkis, the equipment perfectly does everything by itself.

“Lindstrom” started operating in Latvia almost 30 years ago – in 1995, offering companies a new approach – to rent work clothes instead of buying them. In 2017, the work clothing factory “Lindstrom Prodem” (“Prodem”) was opened in Tukuma, the main task of which is to produce products for the needs of the parent company, so most of them are exported. “Prodem” means “production on demand”, or production on demand, which requires the execution of small volumes in a very short time.

“Delfi Bizness” had the opportunity to visit not only the modern production facility, but also the “Lindstrom” service center in Pinkis, where all the processes related to the cleaning of work clothes take place. It must be admitted that robots have not arrived here yet.

On the other hand, in the maintenance of rented carpets, which is another diversion of the company’s activity in Latvia, almost everything is done by machines.

Process automation provides the company with efficiency and enables the achievement of “greener” business goals. For example, the garments are cut by robots, calculating how to use the fabric in a way that creates as little textile waste as possible.

Easier and more profitable

Director of Global Supplier Management of “Lindstrom” (until May 1 – Director of “Prodem”) Inga Jākola says that part of the production processes have been automated since the very beginning of the Tukuma production plant, but this process continues.
