National Basketball Association represented by Latvian basketball player Kristaps Porziņģis (NBA) Assistant Coach, Dallas Club Mavericks Stephen Sailas is close to becoming the head coach of the Houston Rockets, reports Adrian Vodzhnarovsky, a spokesman for North American media ESPN.

According to sources close to the situation, the talks between Steven and the Rockets have been concluded at the final stage and a formal agreement is only a matter of time.

Sailass has spent the previous two seasons with the Mavericks. The Rockets team has been convinced by Sailas’ intelligence in the attack game and also by the fact that he has previously worked with specialists such as Rick Carlisle, Steve Clifford and his father Paul Sailas.

During his career, 47-year-old Sailas has trained several leading NBA defenders, including Luke Dončič, Kembu Volker, Steven Curry. He will now be able to lead James Harden and Russell Westbrook.

Sailas has been with the NBA since 1999, when he began his career as Charlotte’s Hornets scout. Since 2000, he has worked as an assistant on the Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors and Mavericks, and has been a Washington Wizards scout for one season.

He played in college basketball for the Brown University team, but after graduating, he worked for the National Association of Career Basketball Players (NBRPA) for three years.

His father, Paul Sailas, led the Hornets, Cavaliers, and San Diego Clippers during his coaching career. In his career as a basketball player, the former striker was crowned NBA champion three times in the 1970s.

The Rockets acknowledged the superiority of the Lakers in Los Angeles in the semifinals of last season’s elimination tournament with a 1-4. After four seasons, Mike D’Antoni resigned as head coach.
