The artistic director of the Rezekne Theater ‘Joriks’ will be Mārtiņš Eihe

At the beginning of the new season, the former artistic director of the Rezekne Theater “Joriks” has been replaced by the director Ilya Bocharnikov Mārtiņš Eihe, informed the theater.

Bočarnikov explained that starting his work in 2016, he had set several goals for the theater – to establish a Latvian troupe, to improve the repertoire, to become recognizable in Latvia and to become nominees for “Players’ Night”, which was also achieved in 2017 and 2019.

“I understood that it was time to hand over the management of the theater to safe and reliable hands in order to continue the activities, traditions, introduce new winds and ideas, expand the circle of spectators in Latgale and Latvia,” said the current artistic director of the theater.

Eihe has studied at Ogre Secondary School, Riga Secondary School No. 77, graduated from the Latvian School of Culture, acting studies at the Theater “Skatuve” and the directing department of the Latvian Academy of Culture. Since 2004 he has been an actor in Liepāja Theater, but since 2005 – a theater director. From 2006 to 2009, Eihe worked as a director at the Valmiera Drama Theater. Since 2007 he has been leading the creative association “Nomadi”.

Eihe has repeatedly received “Players’ Night” nominations for his productions. 2015/2016 In 2007, Eihe received the “Silver Pharmacy 2011” award from the “Family Pharmacy” category as the director of the season ‘s best show dedicated to the coverage of family and personal problems.

Eihe also currently works in various Latvian theaters and projects, as well as performances are staged abroad. He started working at the Rezekne Theater in 2017, when he performed Fausto Paravidino’s “Two Brothers”, at the end of 2019 he staged Ingmar Bergman’s “Autumn Sonatas”. This season, Mārtiņš will perform various performances in Latvian and Russian. Antona Chekhov’s “Seagull” will be a novelty and challenge on the stage of Rezekne Theater, which will be staged bilingually for the whole ensemble of actors.
