The Art of Ebro: Drawing on Water with Maryam Al-Tamimi

Maryam Al-Tamimi is a visual artist who specializes in this type of art. She has presented many workshops and educational courses to teach the art of drawing on water. She confirmed to Al-Bayan that patience and continuous training are important factors for learning this art.

Regarding the origin and origin of this art, Maryam said: “This art is one of the popular ancient arts, as it depends on forming colors and drawing them on the surface of the water, and it is an art that follows the Timurid school.”

Regarding her interest in this art, the artist stated that it began with the Sharjah Center for Arabic Calligraphy, where she participated in one of the workshops on this art there, and after that she headed to Istanbul in Turkey to learn more about it. She added: This art is characterized by the use of natural colors and some natural materials mixed with water, and it is also difficult for one painting to match another painting.

Maryam Al-Tamimi studied architecture, as plastic art meets architecture in imagination, precision, and taste in choosing colors and designs. Due to her intense passion for art, she would travel every week or two to Turkey for art lessons, during her studies in engineering, and she would work on her schoolwork. On trips on the plane or train on her way to attend art classes, which posed a great challenge for her, as studying engineering was not an easy thing.

In her advice to those who want to learn the art of drawing on water, they should be patient and be keen on daily training and practice. She says that this art is one of the important arts, and it must be developed and disseminated, in a way that is compatible with the requirements of the current era, and to provide the current generation with the secrets of this art, so that cultural communication between the various arts and generations is not interrupted.

The engineer and visual artist, Maryam Al-Tamimi, has participated in several exhibitions and events, the most recent of which is an exhibition at the United Nations, and other workshops in Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah, where the art of Ebro attracts a lot to learn and practice.
