In a press release, published on Friday April 15, 2022, theAP-HP denies the closure of a service of theSaint Louis Hospital to Paris. In some media, especially The Parisian, it was announced that the clinical immunopathology department was threatened with closure due to lack of staff.
Recruitment difficulties
The AP-HP, which manages the Saint-Louis hospital, recognizes the recruitment difficulties and explains: “the clinical immunopathology department of the Saint-Louis AP-HP hospital has been confronted for several months with major difficulties in recruiting ‘nurses and night nurses even though the workforce is full during the day’.
During the day, this service operates with full staff: 15 nursing stations or state-qualified nurses (IDE) filled out of 15 open positions, proof of its attractiveness. The night team has experienced significant difficulties with, in recent months, and in particular following the epidemic, the departure of 11 nurses out of a team of 12 necessary for the proper functioning of the night team.
These departures are essentially linked to personal reasons (retirements, moves to the regions, internal mobility at the Saint-Louis hospital and within the AP-HP, etc.), as well as the consequences of a change in the organization of work that took place in April 2021 in the department.
A situation that prompted the care team as well as the patients to take matters into their own hands, according to The Parisian. In a letter addressed to Emmanuel Macron et Marine Le Pencandidates in the second round of thepresidential electionthey are worried about the “very short term” closure of this AP-HP service.
They gave them an appointment on Tuesday April 19, 2022, at 2:30 p.m., in front of the doors of the Saint-Louis hospital in order to have answers on the means granted to the health services in difficulty.
Continuity and safety of care
The teams of this service have mobilized to ensure continuity of care, especially at night. “The continuity and safety of care were nevertheless guaranteed with a full night staff thanks to the commitment of the day teams who took night call duty for several months, on a voluntary basis”, details the AP- HP.
Management assures that the situation should improve soon with recruitment “already guaranteed”. To ensure these recruitments, the AP-HP took steps with nursing training institutes and nursing forums, as well as communicating with young professionals.
The management ensures that this service will therefore remain open.
