The Anti-Cancer Effects of Green Bananas: A New Study Finds a 60% Reduction in Risk

Jiang Shoushan, a Taiwanese nephrologist, recently visitedFacebookShare, citing a study published in 2022 in the medical journal Cancer Prevention Research showing that eating one green banana a day can reduce the risk of cancer. The study followed nearly 1,000 people with Lynch syndrome who took the equivalent of a green banana a day of resistant starch for two years.

The results of the study found that although the risk of colon cancer was not reduced, the risk of certain digestive tract cancers, such as gastric cancer, biliary tract cancer, pancreatic cancer and duodenal cancer, was reduced by 60%.

Jiang Shoushan pointed out that in addition to green bananas containing resistant starch, other foods including oats, grains, pasta and rice, peas and vegetables all contain resistant starch, and quoted researchers as saying that resistant starch is a kind of carbohydrate that will not Digested in the small intestine; instead, it is fermented in the large intestine, feeding beneficial gut bacteria.
