the American writer Douglas Kennedy meets his readers in Dijon

The 67-year-old American writer Douglas Kennedy traveled to Dijon on Wednesday June 15 to meet his readers. On the occasion of the release of his latest book “Men are afraid of the light”, he was able to exchange with his assiduous readers and lend himself to the game of questions and answers and dedications.

He is a successful novelist of international renown who traveled to Dijon. Author of already 25 books, he often describes a rather acerbic portrait of the United States. His latest novel takes place in Los Angeles, it’s a family story, in a rather dark atmosphere.

Douglas Kennedy was to go to Dijon in June 2020, but the appointment was canceled for health reasons. It’s a moment for him “essential” to be able to meet his audience again.

The American author declared at the microphone of France 3 Bourgogne that this kind of meeting allows him to see the public, because “a novel is two years of my life, I’m alone most of the time and I live in my head most of the time! The fact that I have a large readership here in France, I really like that!”

Most of the people who come to the bookstore are loyal readers of the writer. A reader came on the occasion of the release of the new novel, and wishes “putting a face on whoever writes these novels”.

This is not the author’s first visit to Dijon, he had already come 15 years ago for his novel “The woman of the 5th”.

What worries the author now, however, “It’s because the book is threatened by the laptop. Honestly, life is threatened by the laptop. The laptop has changed the relationship with everything. Today on the train, there was a woman with a book, I I was with my computer, I was writing, and everyone else was on the laptop. I know a lot of adults who don’t read: no time, we’ll watch a series, emails, not even a newspaper!”

Douglas Kennedy will be in Besançon on Thursday June 16. In total, he will stay 2 weeks in France, meeting his readership.
