The Montreal Alouettes have reached an agreement with five international players, four of whom were selected for the international draft of the Canadian Football League (CFL) this year.

Australian kicker Joseph Zema, Japanese linebacker Akio Yamagishi, Japanese halfback Taku Lee, and Swedish defensive back William James all signed contracts, details of which were not disclosed.

French receiver Kevin Kaya, a Université de Montréal Carabins product, also swelled the club’s ranks by accepting an offer from the team. This allowed the Carabins to progress by 597 passing yards in 2019 – its last varsity season – to take second place in this chapter in the Quebec Student Sport Network (RSEQ).

Zema played with the Incarnate Word University in Texas in 2017 before joining the San Antonio Commanders in the Alliance of American Football in 2019. He averaged 45.8 yards per punt there.

Yamagishi and Lee both played in the X-League in Japan. Lee was a member of the Obic Seagulls last season and he helped his people win the title. James has played in Germany, Australia, Finland and Sweden since his professional debut.
