The “Acquarulo” viaduct on the Cilentana reopened to traffic

Along the state road 18VAR “Cilentana”at km 141.900, the Acquarulo viaduct was reopened to transit Ceraso, thus allowing smooth circulation on the occasion of the upcoming Easter. On the occasion of the reopening of the work, among others, the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport was present Tullio Ferrantethe local mayors, the manager of Anas Campania, Nicola Montesano and the manager of the Network Management Area of ​​Anas Campania, Sandro Subject.

On the Acquarulo viaduct, in fact, at the end of last December the Anas staff on duty found, very promptly, an anomaly on an expansion joint, thus allowing traffic to be interrupted and the appropriate checks to be started and the subsequent planning of the intervention of recovery.

«Thanks to the technical and professional commitment of the Anas workers and the executing company, which I thank, we managed – despite the adverse weather conditions on some days – to achieve the challenging objective of restoring a strategic connection for Campania, especially from the from a tourist point of view, before Holy Easter», declared the Manager of Anas Campania Nicola Montesano.

In fact, from the moment of the event, despite the then festive period, all the resources involved in the intervention gave their all to carry out technically complex and punctual activities, increasing men and means during the works according to the activities to be carried out .

In particular, in less than three months, the following main activities were carried out on the viaduct:

• construction phase, including the supply and construction of the suspended scaffolding;
• a series of technical and laboratory insights;
• numerous preliminary activities, also carried out using the bybridge platform;
• hydrodemolition of the extrados and the surfaces of the damaged pulvinus and subsequent cortical restorations;
• installation of the so-called “passivating” on the reinforcements;
• installation of thixotropic mortar for the cortical restoration of the pulvinus;
• 34 perforations for the execution of reinforcements with “dywidag” anchor bars and counterplates;
• tensioning of such bars;
• injections of mixture to protect the “dywidag” bars and resins for sealing;
• dismantling of the suspended scaffolding and lifting of the deck with installation of thickening plates;
• further technical checks during construction;
• construction of the flooring and completion of the cortical restorations.

After this period of Easter exodus – starting from 8 April – the execution of finishing activities is then scheduled, the creation of the definitive expansion joint and the installation of a permanent monitoring system, which will allow the behavior of the work to be observed over time; this monitoring is also part of the broader program of digitalisation of infrastructures for their management, thanks to the implementation of new technologies.

These activities will be carried out through the activation of alternating one-way for a period estimated at approximately three weeks.
