A 2023 State of Remote Freelance jobs study conducted by recruiting firm FlexJobs found that executive assistant and project manager roles are among the most payable remote jobs.

The annual report of the company that provides job search services classified the top 10 jobs required for remote independent work in 2022, according to CNBC, and Al Arabiya.net reviewed it.

Topping the list of job titles is “executive assistant,” a role that often includes duties such as managing the CEO’s calendar and recording meeting minutes, according to FlexJobs. Other duties could also include some research and managing social media pages.

Executive assistants in the United States earn an average hourly wage of $29.84, and the median annual wage for full-time workers is $66,870, according to employment and wage data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

While this may be the most in-demand job on the list, it is not the highest paid. At the top of the list is the role of “project manager”, a role in many industries that typically consists of planning research papers or presentations from early stages through to completion.

Project managers in the United States earn an average hourly wage of $45.43, and the median annual wage for full-time workers is $98,420, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

Here is the complete list of the 10 most in-demand remote freelance job titles at FlexJobs for 2022:

Executive Assistant

Recruitment Officer

Customer service representative

accountant

Graphic designer

Copywriter

Social Communication Manager

project manager

Payroll specialist

Legal advisory assistant

Most of these jobs are often seen as full-time jobs. In some cases, companies may look for a temporary employee who is expected to work close to full-time hours.

But some may be available for part-time jobs or side jobs. Freelance platforms such as Fiverr, for example, provide opportunities for people with graphic design and copywriting skills to find part-time jobs.

To come up with this list, FlexJobs said it analyzed job postings from more than 58,000 companies on its ecosystem. The more popular a job listing, the higher it ranks—which explains why “customer service representative” climbed to No. 3 despite a full-time median annual wage of $39,070, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

The report advises job seekers that if they decide to change their jobs, they should think carefully about the most appropriate types of services to provide to employers. Next, they have to do enough research to make sure there is enough demand for those skills to provide a steady stream of freelancing opportunities.
