The release of the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at the beginning of the month coincides with the end of Phase IV of Marvel cinematic universe (mcu). On this occasion we have also proposed a ranking of all the works of this phase, from the worst to the best. And while many fans of Marvel Studios are eager to find out the Phase Vwhich will debut next year with the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummaniaone of the most anticipated films of this stage is Captain America: New World Orderwhich will contain a Captain America very different from what fans have known.
the MCU’s new underdog
With a release currently scheduled for May 2024, Captain America: New World Order evening the fourth chapter of the saga dedicated to one of the most famous members of the Avengersand then the film will follow Captain America Civil War (2016). But it will also be part of the continuity of the miniseries Falcon and the Winter Soldierreleased last year on Disney+.
But while the first three films of the saga Captain Americaknow First Avenger (2011), The Winter Soldier (2014) ed Civil war (2016), featuring Steve Rogers’ Captain America, this next installment will shed some light Sam Wilson’s new Captain America, played by Anthony Mackie.
And it would seem that the two iterations of the superhero will be very different from each other, in any case this is what it suggests Nate Moore, one of the Marvel Studios producers. After confirming in a recent interview that the filming of the next film Captain America 4 would start next year, is on the Phase Zero podcast by Comic strip that Moore provided more details on Wilson’s new version, and especially on what differentiates him from Steve Rogers :
[Sam Wilson] he’s not Steve Rogers, and I think that’s a good thing. Because for me this new Capo is [comme] Rocky. He will be the loser in any situation. He is not a super soldier. He’s not 100 years old. He doesn’t have the Avengers. What happens after this guy announces publicly, without support, “I’m the new Captain America”? What happens next? I think he’s fascinating, because he’s a man. He has wings and a shield, but he’s a man. So we’re going to test him, is he worth it and see what happens when he gets outplayed, outclassed, “in general.” What makes someone Captain America? I’d already say it’s not being a super soldier. And I think we’ll prove that with Mackie and Sam Wilson.
Moore then seems to underline the human dimension of the character, in the sense that the latter does not possess particular superpowers. The project therefore seems to have the ambition to show how a “common” human can manage to take hold of the torch of a superman, but also that of a historical legend, having taken part in many conflicts in the history of the MCU. We can therefore easily imagine that the two characters will have very different postureswith on the one hand a heroic figure recognized by all and on the other a man who must prove himself worthy of bearing this name.
