Texas man arrested for attack on Capitol and threats | U.S

DALLAS (AP) – A Texas man has been arrested for allegedly participating in this month’s invasion of the federal Capitol and posting threats of violence, including an incitement to assassinate Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York.

Garret Miller, 34, of Richardson, a Dallas suburb, was taken into custody Friday after he was named in a five-count federal complaint.

Authorities say Miller posted photos and videos on his social media showing him inside the Capitol when supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the compound on January 6. Miller also incited violence in messages posted on social media, such as a tweet that simply read “Kill AOC,” a reference to liberal Ocasio-Cortez, according to authorities.

In another tweet, Miller said: “They are right, next time we carry guns,” wrote an FBI agent in an affidavit.

Miller also threatened a federal Capitol agent in an Instagram discussion during which he wrote that he planned to “tighten his neck with a good rope.”

After posting a photo on Facebook showing him inside the Capitol, Miller responded to a comment on the image saying “I just want to frame myself a little hahaha,” according to an FBI affidavit.

Ocasio-Cortez posted the documents on the charges against Miller on Twitter on Friday, then tweeted: “On the one hand, there is nothing left but to laugh at, but on the other, knowing that the reason they behaved with such impudence is because they thought they would be successful. “.

Miller’s attorney, Clint Broden, said in an email to The Associated Press that his client regrets the actions he staged “in a misguided attempt to show support for former President Donald Trump.”

“His comments on social media reflect ill-considered political exaggeration in times of great division and will certainly not be repeated in the future,” Broden said. “He hopes to put all of this behind him.”

The hearing to determine whether Miller is being held without bail is scheduled for Monday.

“We are confident that given the support of his family and that he regrets his actions, he will be released so that he can promptly overcome the charges brought against him,” stated Broden.
