Testing limited to the west

the essential
Since yesterday, a screening campaign has been carried out in Aire-sur-l’Adour (40) where the number of positive cases is increasing. It also concerns the inhabitants of Gers municipalities located in its catchment area.

“If you have no symptoms related to Covid, please come back another day: we are limited to 150 tests per day, we only have about ten to do!” At the Aire-sur-l’Adour polyclinic, which houses the premises of the Synlab medical analysis laboratory, the sentence fell at 9:50 a.m. A decision was hard to accept for some who arrived as soon as they opened, at 7 o’clock in the morning: “We have been waiting for 3 hours and now we are told that there will not be enough tests? It’s a scandal!”, gets carried away a retiree before turning back with her husband.

Among the volunteers for a Covid-19 screening, wisely distributed in a queue that overflows in the neighboring parking lot, many seniors worried about the resurgence of the epidemic in the surroundings.

Two gendarmes arrived on the spot warn people who wait: the situation is the same on the side of the laboratory located in the town center of the Landes municipality. “I absolutely have to be tested today: my daughter has just had a serious operation and I cannot visit her without having a negative test!”, Deplores Babteh, Aturine, 71 years old.

Nearby, a young couple from Gers have just returned from Spain… where they preferred to cut their trip short. “We stayed in Catalonia, near Salou, where the situation is not reassuring. After 3 days there, we were afraid of finding ourselves stuck by a border closure”, says Alexandre, 28, from Montégut- Arros. Anaïs, her 25-year-old friend, works in a food store in Aire-sur-l’Adour: “We want to be reassured before returning to work on Monday and seeing family again.”

They will have to try their luck another day. The tests will continue in the two Synlab laboratories until July 30 inclusive (polyclinic, 16 rue Chantemerle, and town, 14 rue Victor-Lourties), from Monday to Friday, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. h (Saturdays only in town from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.).

Symptomatic people and contact cases remain a priority. Gers residents of “border” municipalities (from Barcelona to Nogaro) are always invited.

Yesterday, the staff of the two Aturian laboratories stepped up to meet as many requests as possible, within the limits set by logistics (the samples are analyzed in a second step). They finally performed more than 200 so-called PCR tests via “nasopharyngeal swab”.

New cases

Two people tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday: a woman residing in Eauze and a child from Pujaudran. On Tuesday, the prefecture of Gers had already announced four new cases (in Pujaudran, in the same family, in Riscle, Lectoure, Saint-Mont). This brings to 277 the number of positive cases in the department since the start of the health crisis. The six people who test positive remain in isolation at their homes. Their state of health is not of concern.
