Tesla drew crowds to Cybertuck for hundreds of thousands, bidders are now canceling orders after asking for millions

According to the original announcement, the Cybertruck with one engine was supposed to start at a very low price. But such a version is not even considered, with two or three engines the price will be several times higher.

Promises, mistakes, they say. The automotive industry, especially electric pick-up manufacturers, is now starting to be associated with this saying. When Ford announced the arrival of the F-150 Lightning version, it mainly attracted interested parties with prices starting at 39,975 dollars (approx. 937,000 CZK). However, the brand has recently increased the price again, so you can’t even beat it without USD 52,090 (CZK 1.22 million). However, it is not only about the blue oval, Tesla obviously does not intend to keep its own promises either. In 2019, the latter stated that the Cybertruck with one engine turning the rear axle would be available from USD 39,900 (about CZK 936,000).

Newly, however, it appears that Tesla will never offer this design. Instead, only variants with two and three electric motors will arrive, with all-wheel drive as standard. But even in their case, the automaker does not intend to fulfill the commitment that attracted approximately two million people to make reservations. Tesla has already contacted the first interested parties with an invitation to pay, after which it presented them with the final bill “between four eyes”. At that moment, however, a large number of them waved their hands dismissively, as they were honored with a price increase of up to 40 percent.

Originally, the twin-engine Cybertruck was supposed to start at USD 49,900 (CZK 1.17 million), while the Plaid version capable of 2.9-second acceleration to 100 km/h, a range of over 800 km and the ability to tow a 6,350 kg trailer was offered for USD 69,900 (1 .64 million CZK). However, this variant already has its price, although not yet published on Tesla’s website, which is a considerable $98,990 (CZK 2.32 million). In addition, the given amount must be paid down to the last cent within just one week, otherwise the allocated production capacity will be offered to someone else.

This isn’t the only Cybertruck data we’re learning now. When introducing each new model, manufacturers in the States must provide NHTSA with information related to the VIN identification number. Among them is weight, which is why it currently looks like the twin-engine version will weigh in at 3,629kg, while the tri-engine Plaid will come in at 4,082kg. So, as with the four-tonne Hummer, one has to wonder what the point of this “green” car is, when more weight always leads to more energy consumption of any kind.

Tesla has not yet specified the exact capacity of the batteries, but in general they are talking about 200 kWh. It will then be possible to charge them at the new types of Supercharger V4 stands, which already handle an 800-volt electrical circuit. Considering the size of the package, however, the stops to top up the range will be much longer than with internal combustion cars. But something like that was already clear at the premiere of both electric pick-ups. Hats off to both Tesla and Ford, if only in connection with the fact that they deceived so many people with their unrealistic allure.

It is already becoming clear why Elon Musk insisted on considerable precision for the Cybertruck, because he wants to sell it at considerable prices. Something like this will obviously be a problem, which is why the head of the car company also talks about the pickup as a grave that Tesla dug for itself. Photo: Tesla
