Tesla has removed radars from the Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles for the US market

Tesla officially announced the already started major renovation, which was announced a month ago by Elon Musk. The company has stopped installing forward-facing radars in Model 3 sedans and Model Y crossovers sold in the United States.. The CEO of Tesla said that ordinary cameras and the latest algorithms with artificial intelligence elements use navigation better than technologies that use a lidar or radar plus camera.

Over the past few months, Tesla has studied in detail the possibility of using only cameras and computer vision in the autonomous control of its electric vehicles, and tests have shown that radars are not needed. Earlier this month, Elon Musk’s car company made a final decision that the new Model 3 and Model Y electric cars sold in the United States would not have radars.

“We are continuing the transition to Tesla Vision, which is our camera-only Autopilot system. As of May this year, the Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles produced for the North American market will no longer have radars. he says in the official press release.

The company warned that the transition to the new type of spatial orientation will lead to a short-term limitation in the work of autosteer and Smart Summon, as well as in the Autopilot and FSD functionalities. All these features will be returned in early June with the help of a wireless update.
