US electric car manufacturer Tesla Motors on Wednesday officially began accepting the cryptocurrency Bitcoin as a means of payment for car purchases.
“You can now buy Tesla with Bitcoin,” the company’s co-founder and CEO, Ilon Masks, said on Twitter.
Visitors to Tesla’s US website can now choose to pay with Bitcoin when viewing payment options.
The mask states that Tesla is able to accept Bitcoin payments directly and that the amounts paid will be stored in cryptocurrency rather than converted into paper currency.
Tesla announced back in February that it would soon accept Bitcoin as a means of payment for car purchases. At the same time, the company bought Bitcoin for about $ 1.5 billion.
