‘Terminator: Genisys’ director refused to make movies after huge flop

Terminator: Genisys was a huge flop. This was for the director Alan Taylor so intense that he thought he would never make another film.

Of Terminatorfranchise started in 1984, when James Cameron managed to score high with The Terminator. The second part, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, was even better received. Unfortunately it went downhill from here, with the biggest blunder being Taylor’s film.

Never again
In a recent interview, Taylor spoke about his evolution as a director and storyteller. Taylor has already made a lot, such as episodes for Lost, The Sopranos in Game of Thrones but also the MCU movie Thor: The Dark World.

The failure that was Genisys did hurt him: “I had suddenly lost the will to make films. I lost the will to continue as a director. I don’t blame anyone for that, just myself. It was a difficult process and it took me a long time to feel better. I had to rediscover the joy of making movies.

Box-office
Funnily enough, Genisys was a box office hit. The film had a large budget of 156 million dollars, but managed to raise a whopping $440 million worldwide. Only Terminator 2 did better. However, the criticism and reactions from film critics and moviegoers were scathing.

Taylor eventually got over it, as he is responsible for the promising Sopranos-pre that movie The Many Saints of Newark.
