Tension rises between US and China over Uighur abuse

The Biden government blocked indicated companies from collaborating to repress that ethnic group. From Asia they reject him and promise to defend themselves.

The United States sanction eight Chinese companies identified as repressing the Uyghur people tension between these governments increased.

The crossing of messages that occurred until this Friday went from a commercial veto to a crossing of messages from both parties. The most recent came from China, which opposed the restrictions of the Joe Biden government, and announced that it will protect the rights and interests of its country’s companies and entities at all costs.

The strong response was born after this week the US Department of Commerce sanctioned Chinese technology companies that – according to them – “actively” supported surveillance and biometric tracking Uighurs, a population that inhabits the Xinjiang Autonomous Region.

This minority community, made up in large numbers by Muslims, has historically been stigmatized and served as a wild card for quarrels between various world powers.

The sanctions

What is imposed from Washington has a direct impact on the economy of its citizens, since one of the consequences is that no American will be able to buy or sell shares in the eight companies in question, which closes their access to North American financing.

Among those sanctioned is the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial drones: SZ DJI Technology. That company was blocked for supplying flying robots to the Xinjiang Public Security Bureau, a method with which the Uyghurs were monitored.

Thus, SZ DJI and the other companies become part of a controversial list of 60 firms that the United States government has its eye on for collaborating with China for the uprooting from Muslim traditions of the Uyghurs.

In this fight neither of the two governments wants to give their arm to twist, because after China’s response, the United States did not lift the sanctions because the repression through the captivity of Uyghurs in concentration camps it has not ceased.
