The picture was slightly more divided among the young. What also stood out there was the tone of the reactions, which was often unacceptable. At the post about Simon’s petition, the youth editors even decided to disable the comments. “It is the most discussed topic on our feed in weeks: over 800 comments were received under the post in one evening, including a lot of personal attacks,” says journalist Simon Vermeulen of the youth editors.
“The tone is very biting and there is little understanding for a different opinion. It shows that this is about more than just “FC De Kampioenen”. Nws.nws.nws wants to be a safe environment where everyone has her, his or their opinion can give without being scolded. That is why we decided to turn off the reactions. We have only done that once before in the three years that we have been in existence, so that is very exceptional.”
