Tennis: Wimbledon canceled and tennis on hiatus until July – Sports: All sports news

It had been several days since the cancellation of Wimbledon was no longer in the shadow of a doubt. The only thing missing was confirmation from the organizers of the London tournament. This Wednesday, they announced the cancellation of the 2020 edition of the third Grand Slam tournament of the year. Unlike Roland-Garros which postponed its dates to the fall (September 20 to October 14), the British competition was purely and simply deleted from the calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is a first for the great London event since 1945.

In addition, the ATP and the WTA have jointly announced the suspension of the season until at least July 13. The ATP tournament in Gstaad (July 18 to 26) and therefore still maintained. The second edition of the Ladies Open in Lausanne is scheduled to take place from July 11 to 19. The qualifications of the event are therefore affected by the new fall on Wednesday.

In a statement, the organizers of the US Open (August 24-September 13) announced that they were still planning to maintain the fourth and last Grand Slam of the season. However, they said that they were closely monitoring the coronavirus situation and “are monitoring the situation closely”.
