In Adelaide, Russians Daniil Medvedev and Karen Khachanov have quietly validated their ticket to the quarterfinals of the tournament and will meet for a place in the semifinals.

This time, Daniil Medvedev was able to prove himself for a whole match. Indeed, after a truncated entry in the running (retirement of Lorenzo Sonego on 7-6, 2-1 in the 1st round, after 1h39 of play), the Russian was a success this Wednesday in Adelaide. Opposed to Miomir Kecmanovic, the current 7th in the world in the ATP ranking played his tennis winning very easily in two sets (6-0, 6-3) and in just 1h08 of play. To time-test himself in early 2023, the Moscow native will therefore have to wait a little longer… perhaps until the next round. In Australia, after a controversial first game on serve, Medvedev left nothing to the Serbian and broke three times (in three attempts). The one real signaling to his serve, at 5-0, was soon forgotten. Subsequently, if Kecmanovic ended up fighting back and scoring her first games, the latter succumbed in the worst case.

(Very) heavy coming for Medvedev

At 4-3 for the Russian, 29th in the world, in fact, he lost the face-off for the last time and the winner of the US Open in 2021 took advantage of the windfall to then finish on 6-3. As the Australian Open (January 16-29) approaches, Medvedev will now see adversity rise a few degrees. Because, in the quarterfinals of this ATP 250, the Muscovite will have a great opponent on paper: Karen Khachanov. After eliminating the Argentinian Pedro Cachin (6-2, 6-4) in his debut, the 20th in the world this time dominated without tremors the British Jack Draper (6-4, 6-2) and went as far as the gates of the semifinal with two good tests on the clock. Note that the winner of this 100% Russian duel would therefore normally have to face a very big client behind, namely Novak Djokovic or Denis Shapovalovunless Quentin Halys or Roman Safiullin create the sensation by then.
