MusicShe has a huge earwig with ‘Unnormal’, and as a result Pommelien Thijs (21)’s agenda is bulging this summer. She performs several times in ‘Tien Om te Zien’, and the singer is also on stage in ‘Zomerhit’ – which can be seen tonight on One. “The fatigue is starting to seep through here and there.”

The hardest working woman in showbusiness? At the moment, Pommelien Thijs can undoubtedly take a shot at that title. Last Wednesday the recordings of ‘Zomerhit’ took place for the third time, but ‘Tien Om Te Zien’ was also on the schedule. “My team and I have been commuting for a whole day between Westende – where TOTZ is being recorded – and Bredene”, laughs Pommelien. “During the day that was not so bad in terms of stress, but in the evening it became hectic. As soon as I was on the podium in Bredene, I knew I could hurry to get to Westende. The shows started at the same time, so we had to get in that shuttle bus really fast. I also had to change outfits, and had time to do so as long as the drum breaks down. That takes about one minute. Rarely have I been so happy to have ‘#LikeMe’ experience of changing myself quickly. (laughs)”

Pommelien – who still wore a homemade top of cola lips at the MIA’s – wants to say a few things about her look. “I don’t call on a stylist, but think about what I want to wear,” it sounds. “I often opt for second-hand items, which I then process. The pants I’m wearing today are actually from the men’s department. I made them smaller, and splashed green paint on them. And before you ask, I’m really happy with the result. This is a piece that no one else has, and also completely suits me.”

Sleeping in October
She is pleased that there is no escaping Pommelien this summer. “I’ve been able to experience a lot of beautiful things with ‘#LikeMe’, but now it’s too crazy for words alone,” she says. “It is the first year that I have had such a say. For that reason alone I owe it to myself to bring this to a successful conclusion. That being said, the fatigue is starting to seep in here and there. In addition to my musical activities, I am also busy with the recordings of ‘Knokke Off’, a series of Netflix and VRT. In October I’m going to sleep in for a week, but at the moment I mainly enjoy every second. Last year there were hardly any shows and contact with the public was also limited. I really missed that then – like many artists. That it is now possible again makes me very happy.”

The third episode of ‘Zomerhit’ can be viewed tonight on Een. In addition to Pommelien Thijs, Berre, Jérémie Vrielinck and Sali Haidara, Metejoor and Snelle, Ozark Henry and The Starlings, Bart Kaëll, Sylver, The Dinky Toys, ‘The Voice Kids’ winner Karista Khan, Goldband and Willy William make their appearance.
