Ten residents died after an outbreak in an Amersfoort nursing home

Ten residents have so far died in the Sint Elisabeth Nursing and Gasthuis in Amersfoort after a major corona outbreak, reports RTV Utrecht.

Earlier this week, it was announced that 70 of the 106 residents had tested positive. According to the nursing home, the number of infections has not increased since Monday.

On Monday it appeared that two residents had died since the care home has to do with the corona outbreak. The outbreak happened just after the first vaccinations against the virus were given.

According to the umbrella care organization Movement 3.0, it is difficult to say whether people have died from corona, because residents often also have other medical problems.

‘Taking measures is difficult’

After the outbreak last week, the number of infections quickly increased. The nursing home says it has taken steps to prevent further spread of the coronavirus.

That is still difficult. People with dementia or another psychogeriatric disorder live in the closed ward. They cannot indicate if they have complaints and can suffer from ‘wandering or movement unrest’.

The residents who are infected are nursed in separate wards. Additional staff has also been deployed to cope with the extra pressure.
