Temporary Parliamentary Commission Proposed to Assess Requests to Revoke Immunity of Bulgarian MPs

The parliamentary group of “Continuing the change – Democratic Bulgaria” submitted to the National Assembly’s secretariat a draft decision on the creation of a temporary parliamentary commission on the requests of the chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev to revoke the parliamentary immunities of Boyko Borisov (GERB), Daniel Alexandrov (GERB) and Kiril Petkov (PP-DB), reported the press center of PP-DB.

According to the proposal, the commission will consist of 12 deputies – two people on a parity basis from each parliamentary group. She will work until her subject is exhausted, but she must complete her work no later than July 18, 2023. In each case, she must assess whether there is sufficient evidence of a crime of a general nature and a separate opinion will be prepared. A huge volume of evidentiary materials has been brought to the parliament, with which the members of the commission must familiarize themselves.

The chief prosecutor wants the immunity of Kiril Petkov

With the creation of this temporary commission, the practice of the National Assembly has been followed so far in a number of other cases with the immunities of people’s representatives requested by the prosecutor’s office.
