Telenet Giants Antwerp closes the Elite Gold on Friday evening (8:30 PM) with the arrival of Dutch star Heroes Den Bosch. The result is not important for the rankings. “We want to end the regular phase of the competition with a win for our fans and towards the start of the play-offs,” says coach Ivica Skelin.
Three days after the narrow loss in Donar Groningen, Telenet Giants Antwerp has to compete again against a Dutch top team. The Sinjoren receive Heroes Den Bosch. The Dutch are behind Ostend and Telenet Giants Antwerp in third place in the Elite Gold of the BNXT League.
In recent weeks, the Giants had to be careful not to lose the second Belgian place at the expense of Charleroi, Limburg United or Liège. That assignment was already well completed last week, so that on Wednesday, May 8, the Giants were the second Belgian team to start the quarter-finals (best of three) of the play-offs in their own Lotto Arena and with home advantage.
Hunting for Belgian title
Against whom Jean-Marc Mwema and his teammates will start the final round will become clear on Friday evening, when the last matches in the Elite Silver have also been contested. Kangaroos Mechelen, Bergen or Leuven Bears are the possible opponents in the quarter-finals. If Telenet Giants Antwerp qualifies, it will also enjoy important home advantage in the semi-finals (best of five). Before the play-offs start and the Giants start the hunt for the Belgian title, they must first look for revenge after the loss in Donar Groningen on Friday evening at 8:30 PM in the Lotto Arena.
“This match no longer has any influence on the rankings. We want to end with a win for our own fans”
Ivica Skelin
Coach Telenet Giants Antwerp
“Defensively we have to do much better than last Tuesday. We were also completely down on the rebound. If we want to be successful against a strong opponent, we must control the rebound on the one hand and defend firmly on the other. We want to finish with a win for our own fans and move towards the play-offs. This match no longer affects the rankings. But it is important to build up confidence with a view to the rest of the campaign,” said Ivica Skelin, coach of Telenet Giants Antwerp.
