Technical sector wants to use status holders to solve staff shortage | Economy

Due to the severe shortage of technical personnel, the technical sector has drawn up a plan to fill 60,000 vacancies. To achieve this, the sector wants to attract status holders and temporary staff from outside the European Union.

Due to staff shortages, the energy transition and construction are stalling. The sector, the employers’ organization VNO-NCW and MKB-Nederland, who jointly worked out the plan, want to fill ten thousand vacancies with status holders and staff from outside the EU. Furthermore, robotization and digitalisation of the sector should reduce the number of vacancies.

“It’s really five to twelve,” says VNO-NCW President Ingrid Thijssen. “Without unconventional solutions, the Netherlands will literally get stuck on many fronts due to a lack of technicians.”

Organizations want to double the influx of staff and minimize the outflow. The plan therefore also undertakes to prepare more owners and side participants who want to make the transition to the technical sector.

The plan was turned over to the cabinet. Minister Micky Adriaansens (Economic Affairs) says the cabinet is also working on an action plan. “And I think this plan is very much in line. So we need to make sure we act together.”
