teachers from Lezay-Marnésia college rally for two schoolchildren in the street with their families

For more than two years, the association “a roof for our pupils” which brings together ten teachers from the Lezay-Marnésia college in Strasbourg has been mobilizing for some of their pupils whose families are homeless. This time, it’s two college students sleeping outside with their families.

They are not at their first attempt. About ten teachers from the Lezay-Marnésia college in Strasbourg, united in association for more than two years, are mobilizing again. They fight so that some of their students, who sleep in the streets with their families, find a home. This time, it’s an Albanian family with four children who have been sleeping outside since the beginning of May.

“We have the two eldest who are educated at home in 6th and 5th, explains Agathe Bertrand, teacher in the college and member of the association “a roof for our students”. The other two are in kindergarten and CM1. The parents’ request for asylum was rejected and as always in this case, they were evicted from their accommodation. We help them with food but we do not have the financial resources to house them “, regrets the young woman.

The family lives for the moment in the station district of the city, in tents, which is obviously not a solution with four such small children. So the association contacted the city, which has not given an answer for the moment. Teachers also use social networks to alert and promote solidarity.

The association rose in December 2018 when teachers at the college discovered that three of their students had been sleeping in cars for long weeks. Since then, “a roof for our students” has enabled several families to find rehousing solutions.
