President Ersin Tatar had a phone conversation that lasted 20 minutes with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Noting that it is not possible to find a common ground, he underlined that the Greek Cypriot side’s denial of the Turkish Cypriot side’s sovereign equality and equal international status means that it denies the acquired equality.

In the phone call, President Ersin Tatar drew attention to the contribution that the 6-point cooperation proposals presented by the Turkish Cypriot side will make to increase the ties and trust between the two sides.
He stated that he condemned the Greek Cypriot side’s rejection of the opening of a private commercial border crossing, which would increase economic interaction and thus confidence between the parties. It will be held with the participation of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and all relevant stakeholders, including both parties.

He noted that the “Eastern Mediterranean Conference” proposal is an important prosperity and stability-enhancing initiative that will benefit both sides and the wider region.

Expressing that the attempts of third parties, including the European Union, to get involved in the Cyprus issue cannot be accepted under any circumstances, the President said:
Rosemary DiCarlo, Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs, and Miroslav Jenca, Deputy Secretary General for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas of the United Nations Political Affairs Division, asked whether there was a common ground for a new negotiation to begin.
He reiterated the support of the Turkish Cypriot Side to their work on the issue.

Pointing out that the Greek Cypriot Administration must immediately fulfill its responsibility regarding the decision to start the excavation of the Atlılar mass grave, which has been held for years and was provided last January, President Tatar said that this will not only accelerate the work of the Missing Persons Committee, but also create an important trust between the two communities. He said it would be a precaution.

Listening to President Ersin Tatar with great care, the Secretary General reiterated the importance that the Turkish Cypriot side attaches to cooperation proposals and confidence-building measures, and touched upon the trust and cooperation that this will create between the two sides from the bottom up. Stating that President Tatar’s statement regarding the agreement to start the excavation of the Atlılar mass grave is important, Guterres expressed his support for the work on this issue, and stated that the proposals presented by President Ersin Tatar for the development of relations, especially trade, are important, and that they are among the opportunities that will arise for a reconciliation in Cyprus. pointed to the importance of injury.
