It’s a Christmas that 8-year-old Mathéo will never forget. At the foot of the tree on December 25, this young patient from Tarbes hospital, suffering from leukodystrophy who has already condemned one of his two eyes, received a singular letter, a passport to his ultimate dream. “Mathéo dreamed of seeing the Statue of Liberty in New York, explains Patricia Erb, the president of the association “A child, a smile, a dream”. We organized several events to raise enough funds for this trip to him and his parents, with tickets for the whole family to the city’s top tourist spots. Mathéo was very happy when he discovered this. His mum cried. It’s something huge that didn’t been simple to organize. It’s just beautiful to offer this happiness and it shows that our actions are materializing in these dreams.” Because, before leaving for the Big Apple in July, Mathéo will also be entitled, in May, to a driving course at Formula Kids in Pau, as he wished.

Amélie received her set of manicures to brighten up everyday life, right down to her fingertips.

At the same time, the association has also brightened up the daily life of Amélie, 12, who has also been hospitalized for a long time. “She dreamed of a machine to do her nails but she needed specialized equipment, compatible with her heavy treatment. We found this for her, rejoices Patricia Erb, when she did not think it was possible.” At the same time, the association “A child, a smile, a dream” provided the pediatric service of the hospital with night lights, high chairs, a stroller and Christmas gifts. “We did a lot of things in a very short time,” admits Patricia Erb.
