The large frame SUV Tank 500 entered the Russian market in April 2023, and until now it has only been offered with a V6 3.0 petrol biturbo engine (299 hp, 500 Nm), which is also equipped with a 48-volt starter-generator. Although China has recently introduced a rechargeable hybrid, the Tank 500 Hi4-T, with a full-fledged traction electric motor and a large battery. Another gas-electric version of the “five hundred” will soon enter our market.
The announced Tank 500 Urban is presented as an urban option. The “gasoline” part of the power plant is completely similar to the Chinese version of the Hi4-T and consists of a two-liter turbo-four (245 hp, 380 Nm) and a nine-speed automatic transmission. However, the traction electric motor built into the gearbox does not produce 163 hp. and 400 Nm, and a much more modest 54 hp. and 268 Nm. The total output of the power plant is 299 hp. and 616 Nm, although in the Hi4-T version it reaches 408 hp. and 750 Nm. The transmission with the front axle coupling, lowering and locking has been retained.
An even more striking difference lies in the capacity of the traction battery. For the Urban version, it is designed for only 1.75 kWh versus 37.1 kWh for the Hi4-T modification. Accordingly, the Tank 500 Urban does not have the ability to recharge from an outlet. Acceleration to “hundreds” is also not in favor of the “city dweller”: 7.9 s versus 6.9 s for the Chinese rechargeable hybrid and 9.6 s for the version with a V6 engine.
Another interesting feature of the hybrid Tank was the seven-seat cabin, because our six-cylinder 500s are offered only in a five-seat configuration. Moreover, the third row has electric folding of the separate backrests, and if you also fold the second row seats, a flat platform and a compartment with a volume of 1459 liters are formed. At the same time, the spare wheel moved from under the rear overhang to the hinged fifth door. Other external features of the Urban version include different wheels and a radiator grille.
The price and configuration of the Tank 500 Urban model will become known closer to the start of sales, which is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.
