Boys in Afghanistan can go back to school from tomorrow, Taliban Education Minister Abdul Baqi Haqqani said in a statement to Reuters news agency. Whether and when girls are allowed to return to school is not mentioned in the statement.
More than a month after the Taliban took over the capital Kabul, most schools in the country are still closed. According to the group, they have not ordered that, but it would still be too dangerous to teach.
Study under conditions
At the schools that nevertheless opened, only girls up to the age of 12 were welcome. Girls’ secondary schools remained closed.
