Bayern Leverkusen trainer Peter Bosz has to do without Paulinho for a few months. The Brazilian talent tore a cruciate ligament during a training for the cup final.
Bosz still had Wednesday warned for serious injuries due to the full schedule. “When the signals are less likely to travel from your brain to your muscles due to fatigue, you run the risk, for example, of twisting your knee or tearing a cruciate ligament,” said the Dutch coach.
Leverkusen plays on Saturday from 8 p.m. in the final of the DFB-Pokal against Bayern Munich. “It is incredibly unfortunate and very tragic that Paulinho is missing at the peak of the season in Berlin,” said Bayer Leverkusen technical director Simon Rolfes.
“Paulinho can’t be there in the Europa League in August either. His serious injury only motivates us more to win the cup.”
The nineteen-year-old attacker played thirteen Bundesliga games for Leverkusen this season, the majority of them as substitutes. He accounted for three hits. The Bosz team, with a fifth place in the league, just failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Leverkusen won the first game in the eighth finals of the Europa League 1-3 against Rangers. The return will be played in the first week of August. From the quarterfinals, the tournament will be continued in the German cities of Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Gelsenkirchen and Cologne.
