“Taiwan is setting up an investment fund with initial funding of $ 200 million to invest in long – term development Lithuania in sectors that are strategically important for both Lithuania and Taiwan, “Juan told a news conference.

He informed that the strategic investment fund will be established by the Taiwan National Development Fund and private sector companies.

“The foundation has extensive experience and knowledge in the development of advanced industries,” said the head of the Taiwanese representative office in Vilnius.

The investment package is part of Taiwan’s action plan to develop economic ties with Lithuania in response to Chinese pressure, which Taipei has described as unprecedented and a violation of international law.

The plan also calls for the establishment of a special working group to promote cooperation between Lithuanian and Taiwanese companies and the takeover of Lithuanian goods blocked by China, including in urgent cases.

Juan told reporters that the results of the plan can be expected “in the next few months”.

Beijing has recently put economic and diplomatic pressure on Lithuania in response to Vilnius’ decision to allow Taiwan to open a mission in Lithuania, using the word “Taiwan” in its name, because China seeks to prevent any attempt by Taiwan to act as an independent state. Elsewhere in the world, such representations use the name “Taipei” as Taiwan’s capital, in line with Beijing’s “one China” policy, which does not allow Taiwan to be considered a separate country.
