Giorgos Tsipras turns a blind eye to the European Parliament, who indirectly but clearly admits that he will try the jump to the European Parliament.
Hosted at MEGA, the director of the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group, although his candidacy has not yet been officially announced, hinted that this will happen.
Welcoming him in the studio, Nikos Evaggelatos wished him “good success” with George Tsipras accepting the wishes, clarifying however that it is not official.
Then, referring to the decisions of the party’s stormy conference, stressing that they were taken so that “SYRIZA will do well in the European elections”.
As Mr. Tsipras initially said, “on Sunday we made three decisions. Let’s not get into a process of introversion again, as there are less than 100 days until the European elections. We confirmed the presidency of Kasselakis and decided to have a better political function”.
When asked about the changes that are imminent in SYRIZA and whether it is Kasselaki’s party anymore, George Tsipras replied that “Kasselaki’s party has been since he was elected president in September” and explained that significant constitutional changes can only be made with a constitutional congress, which is coming up.
“We have left the transformation of the party in the middle, which must continue,” he admitted.
What is SYRIZA anyway?
On the occasion of the recent speech of Stefanos Kasselakis at the LSE, who declared himself a “neo-socialist”, the director of the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group, emphasized that there was a big fight until the 2022 congress to determine that SYRIZA is addressed to the whole world, throughout the progressive faction.
“That is, from the Left to the Democratic Center. This has existed since then but was not implemented. One of the mistakes that were made before is that we continued to appeal to a more limited audience than we could have,” he added.
He then made a special mention of the European elections, noting that “it is crucial that SYRIZA remains the second party and does not fall below the percentage it got in June 2023. We have three months ahead of us and we must make the most of them.”
At the same time, he recalled that “Stefanos Kasselakis was elected president because the people did not want the old thing, expressed by Efi Ahtsioglou, but also because he said he would beat Mitsotakis”.
In fact, referring to the intervention made by Alexis Tsipras on Thursday and to what extent this conference helped, George Tsipras was clear.
“The issue of trust in the person of Kasselakis was wrongly raised because almost no one questions his presidency. A question of trust was wrongly raised by him on Tuesday night and Alexis Tsipras wrongly replied that it is good to raise a question of trust and we should go to elections. All this was leading us to a dead end. This was also the reason why we submitted a proposal with Sokratis Famellos and Nikos Pappa, and it was well received by the delegates, since it was the only solution,” he said.
Finally, he said optimistically that “the function of the organs will be what it should be, because it is the overwhelming decision of the conference”.
