“Almost two years after the revelation of the illegal surveillance scandal that exposed and exposes our country internationally, the government of New Republic is still doing everything to cover up the case and to put obstacles in its investigation”, underlines SYRIZA-PS in a statement.
“In contrast, the US government over the past year has banned the use of surveillance software like Predator, announced a visa ban on those involved in the production, marketing and dissemination of the illegal software, and yesterday, taking another decisive step, placed draconian economic sanctions on the Intellexa consortium, its main shareholders and its Greek subsidiary”, pointing out that “indeed, in the reasons for the decision of the US Treasury Department it is expressly stated that the sanctions on the Greek Intellexa are related to the fact that it “exported its monitoring tools in authoritarian regimes”.
SYRIZA-PS blames the government for significant delays: “The European Commission has requested information from February 14, 2023 on this matter. Although more than a year has passed and the relevant Sworn Administrative Examination carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been completed for 15 months, both the Commission and the Greek public opinion remain in the dark about the responsibilities of the elected officials and of Megaros Maximos himself . The judicial investigation of the case is progressing steadily. Although last October the investigation was removed from the First Instance Prosecutors, who handled the case for 14 months, and was assigned to a Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court citing the need to speed it up, five months later there has been no progress and no prosecution has been brought.” .
“Mostly, however, there has been no progress in cross-checking the DPA’s list of 92 confirmed Predator targets with the corresponding National Intelligence Service contact details, in order to demonstrate whether the same individuals who were victims of Predator had been put under surveillance. and from the EYP. In other words, the basic pre-investigative action for the certification of the joint monitoring center has not been done”, emphasizes SYRIZA-PS.
“The strict financial sanctions announced yesterday by the USA require the Anti-Money Laundering Authority to use all the information that will be provided to it by the Greek credit institutions in the next period, regarding the financial transactions of Intellexa’s shareholders, employees and of its partners, which is dictated by international practice”, the announcement of SYRIZA and concludes:
