Syrian Actor Muhammad Qanoua Dies at 49, Shocking Artistic Community

The Syrian and Arab artistic community is in a state of shock following the announcement of the death of the Syrian artist, Muhammad Qanoua, yesterday, at the age of 49, from a heart attack.

Immediately after announcing his death, social media circulated the last post of the late actor, as he mourned the character he presented in the last series, “Al-Arabji”, which was shown in the current Ramadan season, a week before his departure from life, as he published his picture with a comment: “Goodbye, Showman.”

It was also his last meeting with him on the “IT in Arabic” program, indicating that he was enjoying his personality in this series, and said, “Shuman is one of the characters that I loved and was upset with him when he left.”

Muhammad Qanoua’s latest work was the series “Al-Arabji”, a Syrian drama series directed by Saif Al-Din Al-Subaie and starring Bassem Yakhour, Salloum Haddad, and Dima Kandalaft.

Muhammad Qanoua was born in Damascus on September 26, 1973, and he is the son of the famous artistic Qanoua family. He is the son of the late radio artist and director Marawan Qanoua, and his family used to work in the Dabous Theater in the “Two Brothers Qanoua” troupe.

The late actor began his artistic career with the Syrian artist Yasser Al-Azma in 1995, and Muhammad participated in parts of the famous comedy series “Mirrors”, and he also worked in the field of commercial advertising for a while.

The late Qanoua’ participated in dozens of dramas and TV shows, including Behind the Walls 1995, A Director by chance 1996, People and Habayeb 1999, Lashu al-Haki 2001 Abu al-Mafafiyah, Jasmine and Cement, Our Sweet Days in 2003, Layali al-Salihiya 2004, The Age of Madness, Treachery, Five and Thursdays 2005, Ghazlan In the Forest of Wolves, and the will of fancy in 2006.

He played important roles in many Syrian series, including On the Brink of the Abyss, and Sirat al-Hob in 2007. As for 2008, he participated in Awlad al-Qaymariya, My Grandfather’s House, Another Rainy Day, and was stuck in the minds of the audience in the series Days of Study and many others.

Qanoua was distinguished by his performance of the roles of the Levantine environment for which he was known, especially in the famous series from Bab Al-Hara, Al-Sham Al-Adiya, Asaad Al-Warraq, Al-Dabour, Ahl Al-Raya and Al-Amimi, and the historical series Al-Qaqaa bin Amr Al-Tamimi 2010 and others.

In addition to his artwork, Muhammad Qanoua is married outside the artistic community, and he has four children, Adnan, Marwan, Maya, and Massa.

Qanoua’s death was a shock in the Syrian artistic and popular circles, and a large number of Syrian stars mourned him, led by Yasser, who wrote in a post on Facebook saying: “Oh my love, O Muhammad, may God have mercy on you. We belong to God and to Him we shall return.”
