Synology releases RS1221 + server rack with eight bays – Computer – News

Synology releases a new server rack NAS. The RackStation RS1221 + has a Ryzen CPU and has eight bays. There will also be an RS1221RP + with redundant power supply, the manufacturer says.

The racks are primarily intended for businesses, Synology says. The difference between the racks is that the more expensive RS1221RP + uses redundant power through the use of two PSUs. The racks both have room for two rows of four SATA bays. The racks use an AMD Ryzen V5100B CPU. The predecessor used another Intel Atom chip.

According to Synology, the device is about 3.6 times faster than the previous model. The RS1221 + and RS1221RP + both have a random read speed of 108,000 iops and a sequential read and write speed of 2315MB / s and 1147MB / s, respectively. The device has 4GB ecc memory which can be expanded up to 32GB. It is also possible to expand the number of drives to twelve bays via an RX418 expansion.

On the back are four gigabit Ethernet ports and two USB 3.0 ports, and an e-sata slot. The drives have a consumption of 49.89W and 61.94W respectively when active, and 22.64W and 29.98W in sleep mode. The RS1221 + measures 482×306.6x88mm, and the RP + is slightly larger at 88x482x407.5mm. The racks are already there on Synology’s website, but prices and availability are not there.
