Switzerland Sees Decline in Social Assistance Rate According to 2022 Statistics

In 2022, 256,800 people in Switzerland received financial social assistance benefits at least once.

Compared to the previous year, the social assistance rate fell by 0.2 percentage points to 2.9%. Since the introduction of social assistance statistics in 2005, the social assistance rate only reached this level in 2008.

This decline is accompanied by a further decline in the number of newly opened social assistance dossiers, while at the same time an increase in completed social assistance receipts. These are some of the results of the social assistance statistics from the Federal Statistical Office (BFS).
