A new actor comes into play in the discussion on the institutional agreement between Switzerland and the European Union: Progresuisse. Bringing together political figures, the world of economics and science, the movement is committed to the agreement.
Progresuisse intends to stimulate “a substantial and constructive debate” on the scope of the framework agreement. According to the movement, the bilateral path is the happy medium that needs to be consolidated and developed. Not having an agreement is not an option, he believes.
Important issues
As the stakes are high for the future of Switzerland, it is necessary to obtain a political majority, continues Progresuisse. It does not dismiss concerns about sovereignty, which must be taken seriously and brought under control. For Progresuisse, relations between Switzerland and the EU must be able to be further developed, in particular for science, which must maintain its networks at international and especially European level.
Former federal councilors, such as PDC Doris Leuthard and Joseph Deiss, notably support the movement. A dozen elected federal officials are also on the list. On the economic side, we can cite the president of the Association of Swiss Private Banks (ABPS), Yves Mirabaud, and the former president of ÉconomieSuisse Heinz Karrer. In addition, companies, universities and institutes are included.
