The FOPH and Swisstransplant have launched a campaign in the midst of Covid-19 to encourage people to make a decision and thus reduce the burden on the family.
More than 1,400 people are still waiting for a new organ. The Federal Office of Public Health (OFSP) and Swisstransplant have launched a new campaign during this Covid-19 period.
It is crucial to make a decision and communicate it to those close to you, the FOPH said on Tuesday. Indeed, families often refuse organ donation because they do not know the person’s wishes.
With the “Say it your way, but say it” campaign, the FOPH and Swisstransplant remind us that there are simple and original ways of informing those close to them of their wishes. And that lightens the burden on the family.
Some transplant programs, including kidney and pancreas, have been temporarily suspended during the pandemic in order not to overload infrastructure and protect at-risk patients. The last few months have been particularly difficult for them, according to the FOPH. They had no chance of receiving a new organ.
