Tennis » Swiss Tennis is launching a series of tournaments to provide players in Switzerland with opportunities to re-compete and earn income.

The heart of the Swiss Tennis initiative is an N-series, which is open exclusively to Swiss players. The first of six planned tournaments, all of which will have a prize pool of 15,000 francs, will already take place next week in Biel.

At the end of July, the best Swiss players in competition will compete in a team competition – the Swiss Tennis Pro Cup, contested in the Fed Cup and Davis Cup formats. This latest event, which will take place on July 25 and 26 in Biel, will be open to the public in accordance with anti-Covid regulations and broadcast live on SSR on Saturday.

For these final tournaments, the best Swiss are expected with the exception of Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka. In the men’s competition, the participation of Henri Laaksonen, Sandro Ehrat, Marc-Andrea Hüsler, Johan Nikles, Jakub Paul and Antoine Bellier is confirmed.

In the ladies, two teams made up of current Fed Cup players Belinda Bencic, Jil Teichmann, Viktorija Golubic and Stefanie Vögele as well as “legends” Martina Hingis and Patty Schnyder will be in the running. Timea Bacsinszky is scheduled as a joker. “It is nice to have a goal in sight again and to prepare for a competition,” said Belinda Bencic, world No. 8. “The fact that all the members of the two national teams have answered this shows how happy we are with the recovery.”

Swiss Tennis will invest a six-figure sum to organize these tournaments. “This is an opportunity to give our best support to players who find themselves without international competitions,” said President René Stammbach. ATS
