Swiss Re hires another top Swiss banker

With the free program from UBS boss Sergio Ermotti to the future president, Swiss Re has achieved a coup. The reinsurer is now bringing another high-ranking banker on board – albeit from the UBS competition.

In addition to the designated president Sergio Ermotti is also to be held at the upcoming Swiss Re general assembly Joachim Oechslin move into the board of directors of Swiss Re, as the Zurich reinsurer announced on Thursday.

Oechslin already has experience in the reinsurance industry: from 2007 to 2013 he was head of risk at Munich Re. From there he moved to Credit Suisse (CS), where he stepped down as Chief Risk Officer a good year ago.

Tightly connected

In addition to Oechslin and Ermotti, Swiss-Re-President brings Walter Kielholz also Deanna Ong to the board of directors. Most recently, she was Head of HR at GIC, the Singapore sovereign wealth fund.

With these new appointments, Swiss Re’s good networking within the financial sector worldwide is again evident. The CS and the reinsurer in particular are traditionally closely linked, Kielholz was once President of the second largest Swiss bank.

Trevor Manuel and Eileen Rominger will not stand for re-election at the General Assembly.
