Swiss League Playoffs: Kloten embarrasses the GCK Lions

Kloten embarrasses himself at the playoff start against the GCK Lions +++ Langenthal wins in Olten

Kloten – GCK Lions 1: 4

The start of the playoff quarter-finals in the Swiss League brought a big surprise. Ironically the EHC Kloten, qualification winner and aspirant number 1, stumbled against the GCK Lions.

Kloten had won all eight duels against the GCK Lions since relegation from the National League almost two years ago. In the four direct comparisons this season, the young lions had only scored one goal. But in their first playoff game since 2013, the team coached by long-time Kloten striker Michael Liniger made the big coup.

The GCK Lions prevailed 4: 1 in front of 5171 spectators in the Klotener Schluefweg. The goals of historic success for the farm team of Kloten’s arch rival ZSC were scored by Nelson Chiquet (14th), Léonardo Fuhrer (21st) and in the final minute Ryan Hayes and Justin Sigrist in the empty goal.

For Kloten, who only won the first game in the playoff quarter-finals against future master Langenthal in the previous year, it was the third defeat in succession after the 2: 3 against Visp and 1: 2 against Thurgau at the end of the qualification.
