A rare sight these days: A plane from the low-cost supplier Ryanair takes off at Southend Airport near London. In the front you can see machines from the Easyjet competition on the ground. Both airlines have massively reduced their offer.

The Swiss airline wants to make better use of the passenger aircraft that has remained on the ground and is examining the conversion of part of the fleet. These are primarily to be used to transport medicines and medical materials from Asia.
–
To this end, the airline plans to test the conversion of three of a total of twelve Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft, as announced by the Lufthansa subsidiary on Monday.

Increasing demand for air freight transportation
It is planned to remove the economy class seats from the passenger aircraft in order to meet the increasing demand for air freight transport. More than 800 aircraft seats would be expanded at the Zurich location, it is said.
–
In general, the freight traffic seems to run better in contrast to the almost stopped passenger traffic. According to the information provided by Swiss, its air freight department Swiss WorldCargo has carried out over 80 pure freight flights since the end of March, transporting over 1,300 tons of goods between Asia and Switzerland.

Between Zurich and Asia
Medicines and medical goods were mainly transported. By the end of May, more than 100 cargo flights are planned on behalf of various private and public companies and organizations.
–
As part of the expansion, pure freight flights between Zurich and the destinations Shanghai, Beijing, Chicago, Tokyo as well as Bangkok and Singapore are to take place several times a day in the future. This route network is also to be expanded with additional destinations in the next few weeks. (SDA / vnf)
