Swimming Pool Companies in Berlin Require Millions of Euros for Expansion and Renovation

Berlin. The pool companies need 15 million euros more per year in order to be able to maintain the current offer in the next two years. Sports Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) said this on Friday in the Sports Committee of the House of Representatives. According to current plans, they will receive 68 million euros next year to maintain operations, and 70 million the following year.

However, according to Spranger, this is not enough due to general cost increases, but also tariff increases and increased energy and security costs. Accordingly, an additional million per year is necessary for the increased security costs, ten million to maintain swimming operations, including six million for staff. In addition, three million euros would have to be spent annually to update the IT systems.

Finally, a million euros is also necessary as a security buffer. It has not yet been decided whether Parliament will approve the additional funds required. The swimming pool companies had originally registered 90 and 95 million euros in order to be able to maintain operations as desired for the next two years.

Additional swimming pool planned at the islander

Regardless of general operations, the pool companies are planning to make significant investments in the renovation and construction of new pools in the coming years. However, due to the general price increases, prioritization is necessary, which means that some projects can only be implemented later.

New plans are for a standard swimming pool on the Insulaner, which will complement the outdoor pool there. The new building is intended to compensate for the temporary closures of other pools in the southwest of Berlin. Overall, further plans for new buildings should concentrate on the cheaper type swimming pools and not on more expensive multifunctional pools, announced the head of the pool company, Johannes Kleinsorg.
