Swimming Meeting for Primary Education: Usépiens Learn Water Skills and Overcome Fear of Water

The Sports Union for Primary Education (Usep) in the district of Thionville 2 – Florange has just organized a swimming meeting for children in CE2/CM1, who do not have access to the swimming pool in schools. .

Get to know the water

About sixty Usépiens from the Pasteur, Prévert, Branly, Schlesser de Fameck and Chénier de Florange schools went to the Serémange-Erzange swimming pool, with twenty-two adults.

Courses have been offered to non-swimmers in the small pool. This allowed them to understand entering the water sitting, on their backs, on their stomachs by sliding from a slide, moving underwater, holding on to a bar fixed to the bottom of the pool . An unstable foam bridge allowed them to move on all fours. A third workshop awaited them in the lower part of the large pool with a more complete course combining swimming head out of the water and swimming head in the water. The swimmers, meanwhile, were able to learn water polo with a belt. The objective was to master the movement with the ball, by making passes between pairs, before shooting at goal. They learned to dive, completed an underwater tunnel course and recovered objects placed at the bottom.

At the end of the session, no non-swimming child was afraid of entering the water or putting their head under water. As for the swimmers, they have made considerable progress. A great satisfaction for the organizers.
