A large number of citizens in the governorates of the Republic complained about the electricity distribution companies withdrawing the balance from the prepaid meters, which caused a state of questions and inquiries about the truth of these complaints and their causes, especially with the start of the distribution companies to apply the prices of the new increases in the various electricity segments starting from this month.

An official source of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company revealed that there are 3 discounts that are applied to citizens who consume electric current through different segments, in addition to some exceeding the consumption of (thousand kilowatt-hours) and he who does not receive any support and is charged at the real cost.
The source added that the discounts begin gradually for citizens who fall under the umbrella of the third tranche, and start from consuming 100 to 200 (kWh), where a deduction from the counter balance is applied directly, called the “transition difference” from one segment to another, with a value of 22 EGP for the current prices, which have actually been applied so that they are calculated as follows: “50 kilos x 38 piasters = 19 pounds – 50 kilos x 48 piasters = 24 pounds”.

The source pointed out, that this means that the total of the two segments is 43 pounds for the first 100 kilos, noting that if the citizen’s consumption exceeds 100 kilos and becomes 101, this means the cancellation of the first two brackets and the beginning of the accounting starting from the third bracket.
He continued: “The method of calculating it is 100 kilograms x 65 = 65 pounds, so we say 65 – 43 = 22, and this is the story of the 22 pounds that are deducted in the event of reaching the third bracket, so that the total discount is 65 pounds.”
He stressed that what is happening is due to what the government approved earlier when it announced that the first tranche, starting from 0 to 50 kilos, was reduced at 38 piasters, and the second, starting from 50 to 100 kilos, was reduced at 48 piasters, which is the so-called low-income segment, noting that That when consumption exceeds 100 kilos, this means that the citizen is not entitled to the subsidy, and it is not applied. The 100 kilograms that were consumed are accounted for with a total of 65 pounds, as the meter automatically deducts an amount of 43 pounds at the reduced price.
The source explained: “Because of the breaking of the 100 kilos, it came out of the subsidy, and it is assumed that 65 pounds will be deducted, but 43 pounds were deducted, so the difference is deducted until the value is 65 pounds, so the difference is 65 – 43 = 22.”
He pointed out that the second discount that is applied is in the case of consuming 651 (kWh), the meter automatically deducts a consumption difference of 139 pounds, explaining that the third and last discount that the meter automatically makes when the citizen’s consumption reaches 1001 (kWh), which is what No support has been applied to it at all, so an automatic discount of 270 pounds is applied. In addition, at the end of each month, a deduction for customer service is made according to the subscriber’s last bracket before returning to the first tranche.
