Peking – Suzanne Schulting withstood the immense pressure as the top favourite. She rose to great heights with two gold, a silver and a bronze Olympic medal. It sometimes seems easy for the short-track queen, but the many sacrifices she had to make to achieve her sharp goals are heartbreaking. Moved to tears, she shares just before her return home how intense the road to and in Beijing was. “That you go to the most important game of your life and can’t even hug your parents and sisters, is really terrible. It was a big whine on the bus to Schiphol.”
